  Does the society assign circuit overseers based on their personalities?

  the reason i am asking is that lately i've noticed a trend.

  we get a real good down to earth guy who is easy to work with and we get used to his way.

  of doing things and then 3 years later we get a self righteous abusive a$$hole that thinks he is above all.

  That could be a motivation. Then again, perhaps around 50% of C.Os are just assholes.

  What's The Biggest Difference In Today's JWs And The Witnesses From Decades Ago?

  i believe today's witnesses lack zeal, resolve, "love" of the "truth"......just to name a few things.. years ago, witnesses were excited to knock on doors and tell people they were gonna die if they didn't accept paradise.. now, when you see jws in service, they all look zombied out.. it's a slowly dying religion that will last probably forever like an ancient rotted out tree..

  What I have noticed is that most of the younger ones (which for the purposes of this discussion will be the under 60s) don't talk about 'the truth' amongst themselves at all. When I was a child they did.

  Read S. Hassan's Book: Do JW's really fit the cult mold?

  first time i got a chance to read his book, "combatting cult mind control" and was interested to see if jw's fell into the cult mold.

  my opinion after carefully reading and having left the witnesses after almost 30 years is... no, they don't.

  however, i would add that they wish they were but are simply too big and unwieldy to really pull it off.

  How did our parents do it?

  how did you bury your head in the sand when something didnt seem right but you forced this religion on your kids anyway?

  i was a born in, my mother was a convert.

  ill admit, before i had kids i suppressed doubts and thought "this is as close as it gets to the truth" as soon as i had kids and realized that i now had to teach this garbage to my kids w/out really believing it was enough to get me to realize the cognitive dissonance stops here.

  I am so determined to not have my sons raised as witnesses that it's crossed my mind to have something in writing incase something happened to me and my husband at the same time about them not being raised as witnesses, because I'm sure my parents would get them and sure enough they would start dragging them to meetings and not have holidays and stuff. So that's what I'm thinking about doing, actually having it put in writing, whether or not it would hold up I don't know. I love my parents and they treated me and my brother very well, but I have chosen differently for my sons.

  This is what we've done. I have a letter lodged with my will which states that whilst my chldren could be taken to the kingdom hall, if they ever decide they no longer want to attend, this should be respected. I hve also requested that they not be baptised before the age of 18 and if they do get baptised at all, they must read Crisis of Conscience and Combatting Cult Mind Control first.

  Maybe it wouldn't be respected but I have no non-JW family so it's the best I can do.
